Poetry

I'm using this page to document poetry that I've written over the years. Some of which have been shared with the public and they have enjoyed or been able to relate to, some of which are personal to me and are just my incessant 4am ramblings.

Take a Chance and Hope

Take a chance on life today
See what it could be,
If you remain in the darkness
It will be all you can see.

There is so much more out there just waiting for you
Than all you can feel right now,
It isn’t all dark skies you know
I bet you’re wondering how?

Well let me tell you how
From the ways in which I know,
I dragged myself out of bed one winter
And beneath my feet was snow.

‘Cold just like my mood’ I thought
Pathetic fallacy at its best,
But then I felt a twinge of something
Somewhere inside my chest.

‘I recognise this feeling from somewhere’
I stood and thought to myself,
It fits in with those happy memories
The ones upon the shelf.

I put them up there years ago
When I first lost all my hope,
That was when depression sank in
When all I ever did was mope.

This feeling in my chest though
I remember it only too well,
That was a glimmer of hope I just felt
I’m sure it was! I can tell!

So I clung onto that little glimmer
Even on my darkest days,
Thought back to the day I stood in the snow with a shiver,
And remembered hope finding you has its ways.

It may be when you least expect it
It could be today, tomorrow or a year.
But hope has its ways of finding you,
One day soon it will appear.
